Six weeks to go until the start of the new season. Just under actually and blues are in a pickle. The end of the season was unsatisfactory, we only stayed up thanks to points deductions for other teams. It was all very strange. We started really well and then very quickly it went down the shitter. There were some plausible explanations for that in the short term, but overall the performances were pretty inexplicable. We had decent players and should’ve done better.

Since then it’s been almost comical.

There were rumours that Craig Gardner had been phoning people up suggesting change might be in the air. Most people scoffed and wondered why anybody would want to buy you such a shower of shit and declared that  mystery man who owns the club would not sell and that the ownership structure was just to labyrinthine to allow for a sale, certainly not a quick sale and certainly not with half the ground fit only for the knackers yard.

Then, bugger me, there was a report in one of the national papers that  Blues were indeed for sale and not only had a buyer had been found, a credible buyer that would cause excitement amongst the fan base Had turned up. Just like that. Then we had the usual Twitter and messageboard speculation, and magical   thinking then… nothing.

There have been rumours that recently retired Argentine international Maxi Lopez, in partnership with some clothing geezer were ready to buy the club in instalments which was largely poo pooed. There was an outrageous rumour that Laurence Bassini was interested in buying us with input from ex owner David Sullivan, the man who sold us to a bunch of crooks in the first place and left us with a stadium that only 20 years later has crumbled like a stick of rock whacked with a mallet. That one was shot down in flames by the clever bastards.

The intellectuals among the fan base insisted that these rumours were untrue and that there were more serious people involved who were doing their business quietly and diligently and would be buying the club outright. Then, Christ on a bike there was another newspaper report telling us Bassini has pretty much bought the bloody club using a loan from Sullivan and, of course, was buying it in bloody instalments. Bassini then went public, telling us he had bought the club, he was sacking the manager and installing Mark Warburton in his place.

A week later no sign of a takeover from Bassini or anybody else,Although Lopez and his mate are still piping up on Twitter

The players returned to West Hills today for testing ahead of a little jolly to Portugal, and it seems there won’t be many of them. The squad were short on numbers last year and with a number of departures, with no replacements it’s looking a bit eerie. Rumours continue regarding the status of Lee Bowyer. Is he staying is he going. Who knows? There are those who believe he is currently in France, fishing, and looking content.

He’ll stay there if he’s got any sense.#
